T-Joints

Soldering (Lead-tin)

1. Soldering is good for medium stress joints in metals.
2. Brush clean joitn surfaces
3. Apply flux
4. Heat joint with iron
5. Apply solder wire
6. Continue heating until solder flows over joint

Failure of soldered joints are very similar to those of adhesive joints. Design criterion is surface smear area.

Spot Welding

Spot welding is one of the best methods for joining metal sheets. It functions like a rivet, but is a lot cheaper.
