Second Law of Thermodynamics

While the first law of thermodynamics states that energy is conserved, the second law establishes a direction in which a process can take place. If dS is the change in entropy and dQis the heat added and T the temperature,

$\displaystyle ds~\geq {{dQ} \over T}$ (3.15)

In addition to the above relations we may need an equation of state, $ p = p(\rho,T)$
