Current Status of MDP Activities
The following activities are currently completed or underway. Items notes with a * indicate that this activity is supported by or in collaboration with industry.
- * Development of a "standard prototype" kit for university projects.
- * Development of the use of CAD (Pro/Engineer) for undergraduate design projects. (Teaching material, component libraries, self-help documentation)
- * Investigation of the use of CNC/CAM in design projects. (Waterjet cutting machine purchased at CUED, partially funded by CMI grant.)
- * Development of commercial web based project management software for use in education, (Trialled with IDP student teams.)
- * International and Inter-University trials of management software.
- Development of new design project tasks.
- Development of Linux based resource CD, including
- Desktop enviroment for engineering students
- Open source engineering applications
- Expandable on-line analysis library
- * Online kit catalogue and associated data
- * Design support material
- * Trialling the use of commercial software within the open-source Resource CD, where licencing permits.
- Use of the resource CD environment a low cost teaching environment, trialling at CUED.
- Collaboration with other education establishments re. sharing/reuse of existing teaching/project support material.
- Trial of on-line technical support of undergraduate project.
- * Development and trial use of an ARM based microcontroller and development environment for use in mechtronics projects, computing practicals and 4th year/research projects.
